Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 http://www.foxnews.com/images/286393...onsterPig1.jpg When a 1,000-pound wild hog was shot last year in Alabama, 11-year-old hunter Jamison Stone couldnt have been happier. But his prize photos of the 9-foot-long boar have continued to cause a stink, one the Stone family cant seem to shake. The backlash has only grown worse, with one group calling for the hunters' prosecution. "It is unbelievable what my family has been through over the past year," Mike Stone, Jamisons father, told the Birmingham News. "It has taken 10 years off my life." An online petition has garnered more than 800 signatures from around the world demanding prosecution for what activists are calling animal cruelty, according to the newspaper. Rhonda Roland Shearer, a New York City organizer who investigated the incident, said the pig suffered a "cruel and painful death," the result of 16 shots from a low-velocity weapon, nine of which hit the hog. Shearer claimed that no charges are being pressed against the hunters because the Alabama statute of limitations on animal cruelty has already elapsed. The Stone family disputes that any crime was committed in the first place, yet the family is feeling the wrath of some critics. "You should see some of the emails and hear some of the calls we have received," Jamisons father said. "They are explicit. They tell how they are going to kill my son, like cutting his head off. "It has had us scared to death ... All I did was to take my son on a legal hunting trip." The prize pig, shot by Jamison Stone on an Alabama hunting preserve in May 2007, reportedly weighed 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet, 4 inches from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. If the claims are accurate, Jamison's trophy boar would be bigger than the original Hogzilla, the legendary 800-pound, 8-foot-long wild hog killed in south Georgia in 2004. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,394344,00.html |
Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
Digging a little deeper, it appears that this was probably a "canned hunt" and why not much has been published about it.

Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
I read an article about these hogs. A professor that has studied hogs for many years states that wild hogs teeth grow differently and are spaced differently than domestic hogs.
These huge hogs killed by hunters are from domestic stock not wild feral hogs. |

I am still at loss...... why are people getting freaked?
The dad said it was a legal hunting trip......so what the hell is up with this petition thingy?:confused_ma: Hunting is hunting. T |
Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
It was a legal hunt, though obviously unethical. The "outfitters" were the main ones to blame in the whole deal. The boy and his dad didn't know that it was a domestic hog until after the fact. The dad went after the publicity still thinking it was a real wild hog, and probably went a little overboard even then.
The one thing the dad did wrong was give the kid a handgun that he couldn't shoot well. They should have let him hunt with a rifle, or at least made sure he could shoot the handgun well. |
Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
Rabid Animal rights freaks are making threats against a Kid.
This just proves the mental instability and moral bankruptcy of these Animal rights groups. On the Hunt side-- I think this was a fattened up Hog let go for the hunt. I may be wrong but its what I read or heard. E-A |
Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig

Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
Animal rights activists are some of the biggest terrorists there are.

Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
I will preface this by saying I am a vegetarian.
In my opinion, this kid, his dad, and the outfitter are scumbags. Basically they took a domestic, tame pig and let it loose in a 150 acre fenced in area. The outfitter bought this pig 4 days earlier from a guy who said that he had raised it as a pet and his grandchildren liked to play with it and feed it sweet potatoes. Then they went out to "hunt" it, with the kid armed with a handcannon that he obviously couldn't control. He shot the pig 9 times, and had to chase it around this area for 3 hours from the time the pig was first shot, to the time it died. Afterwards, they released photos which have been provent to be photoshopped, to make the pig look larger than it really was. They also claimed the pig weighed 1051 pounds, even though the scale they used weighed in 10 lb increments. I do not hunt personally, but I also do not know many rational people, hunters or otherwise, who would think that torturing an animal like that would be OK. Sure, animals are killed and eaten every day, but this story isnt about hunting, or killing animals, or eating animals. It is about a group of people who tortured a tame, domesticated animal for hours because they thought it was fun, then lied about it afterwards. |

I'm all for hunting but letting an animal slowly bleed out over 3 hours and 150 acres from multiple belly shots seems excessive. They should have finished the animal off. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/h...id=3220628#top |
Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
The hunt was canned and the hunted a domesticated pig; as such, it was wrong. I think there is a thread similar to this in the Firearms subforum so there is no need to rehash all of the particular arguments pertaining to animal cruelty. It sounds to me the outfitters are the chief culprits in this case.

Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
Chasing around a harmless farm animal and putting holes in it for 3 hours is pretty low. You do something low like that, and people hear about it and do shit to you. Call it Karma or call it common sense. You'd have to stupid to do this thinking that it was going to go over well and there would be no negative consequences. Hope the kid has learned that what goes around, comes around. Sounds like the older people involved didn't get it.

Re: Alabama Boy Gets Death Threats for Hunting 1,000-Pound Monster Pig
I live smack dab in the middle of hog country, there's wild hog on my property. It's easy to tell a true wild Russian boar they look alot like the one pictured, I can't see his tail but they have long straight tails and a long snout,I've seen them 450-500Lbs but that rare around here.
it's amazing how fast a domestic hog can go wild and their appearance changes drastically. They do canned hunts around here, it's some sick $#it. I don't condole what that father and son did it was totally wrong... and for the gentleman that keeps saying "it's just a hog get over it" you have no respect for Gods creatures (I'm not taking a jab at you just stating how I feel). You live out in the middle of nature the way I do and you might change your mind, you do become hardened in some respects though....and yes I have seen the destruction a herd of hogs can do and I've seen how people deal with it but it's not the kind of thing people go out of their way to do or enjoy doing. And to be fair people come here from all over and pay big money to kill a hog just so they can cape it(sometimes they make sausage), another amusing stunt is to mount the ass end, that's always good for a chuckle:sarc: |

PS - the little porker (the one with the gun) is probably seated 15 or 20 feet to the rear of the big porker (that'd be the pig) and holding his arms up as though they're resting on its back, to make look bigger.
Hey , the kid hunted down a domestic animal and almost killed it with his gun , fore it ran itself to death- he's entitled to a little 'photgraphic license'. Stupid people do stupid sh*t for fun, not much to be done for it. |
